THE COMPANY

Specialist Sports Group is a well-established and expanding sporting goods agency offering Sales, Marketing, Distribution, and Creative solutions to performance sports brands including world leading brand adidas. Specialist Sports is based on the western edge of Southampton, England.

Specialist Sports have distribution responsibility for 12 product categories across UK, Ireland, Europe and several other territories around the world. The category portfolio includes Rugby, Hockey, Cricket, Tennis, Track & Field, Olympic Sports and Teamwear featuring a range of products used by many of the world’s best athletes and grassroots enthusiasts. Specialist Sports are custodians of the adidas brand in these categories and hold Sports Marketing contracts with relevant Governing Bodies, leading clubs, and athletes. Additionally, sister company Specialist Sports Creation holds the global license to manufacture adidas apparel, accessories and hardgoods across a number of categories including Rugby and Cricket in support of the wider commercial strategy.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Finance Director, this role will be responsible for:

• Financial control across the international entities of the SS Group (Ireland, Netherlands, France plus further to be added);
• Maintaining relationships with overseas advisors in each jurisdiction to ensure compliance with local reporting; requirements for Corporation tax, VAT, annual accounts and others as required;
• Any local audit requirements in relation to overseas entities;
• Ensuring ledger accuracy to facilitate a timely and high-quality month end process;
• Implementation of an efficient and accurate intercompany process, in support of a group treasury plan;
• Preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations;
• Preparation and submission of quarterly sales volume reports to major suppliers; and
• Supporting category managers in preparation of annual business plans and review of financial viability of new business opportunities.

THE CANDIDATE

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) either within a SME environment or in the audit of such businesses
• Experience of overseas operations
• Demonstrable strong communication skills, both written and oral
• An ability to analyse and resolve problems, particularly utilising the knowledge and expertise of others
• A practical hands-on approach to work
• A team player, but at the same time a self-starter
